There are so many video games that it might be hard to decide which ones are worth playing. Luckily, a few have become standouts due to their amazing stories, great gameplay, or uniqueness, and legendary status.
Whether you’re a serious gamer or someone who plays games, there are many games you should play at least once in your lifetime.
Disco Elysium: The Final Cut
Table of Contents
Disco Elysium takes place in a city that has been ravaged by a war that took place decades before your story starts. You take on the role of a detective with amnesia who has been put in charge of solving a murder mystery.
The game strays away from average video game graphics and instead uses oil paint graphics. The game is unique as it features no combat, but instead uses skill checks and dialogue trees to advance the story. In the eyes of many gaming experts, this is one of the best games released in the past few years.
Tetris Effect: Connected
Tetris is a game that many didn’t think could be improved upon. However, Tetris Effect has blown that notion out of the water. The new version of the game brings it into the future with a brand new look and mechanics.
The effect has added themes to the levels, as well as an extensive music selection. The game has also added a new mechanic, Zone, which allows players to stop time and clear four rows at once. The humble game of Tetris was ranked as the Game of the Year when it was first released and is far more addictive than you remember.
Psychonauts 2
Psychonauts 2 was released in August 2021 and has already received critical acclaim. Like the first game, you take on the role of Raz, an acrobat trying to become a Psychonaut (a member of an international crime-fighting task force).
The sequel sees you trying to uncover who kidnapped the Psychonauts leader, as well as finding out the mystery of Raz’s family history. This game has barely been out and has already scored in the 90s – it’s a must-play for any fan of the series.
Microsoft Flight Simulator
Flight Simulator has been one of those games that have always flown under the radar, and this brand new edition is easily the best one yet. The game has 30 different aircraft to choose from and so many airports to land and take off from that it is hard to decide where to go next.
What has always set Flight Simulator apart from other games is how realistic it is. You are in total control of the aircraft, and if you have a joystick controller, it’s as close as you will get to an actual flying experience from the comfort of your home.
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2
The classic Tony Hawk games were remastered and re-released earlier this year. Not only did it receive high praise, but it’s also the fastest-selling game in the franchise, selling over a million copies in the first two weeks after release.
The game allows players to skate around huge skateparks and other skater-friendly areas. You can collect secrets, do missions, and of course, pull off the tricks and stunts we all came to know and love from the previous games.
Deathloop
Deathloop is one of the most unique games in the time-travel genre. You take on the role of Colt, an assassin stuck in a time loop. Your job is to find and kill eight targets known as the Visionaries on the island the game is based in, all before midnight.
Deathloop changes the time-travel genre by making the player explore and uncover clues as to where the Visionaries will be and then perform missions to make sure they are all in the same place at the same time. You are given till midnight each night and everything you do changes the course of time.
Hitman 3
Hitman 3 is the eighth installment in the legendary franchise and sees you reprise your role of Agent 47. This game concludes the storyline that was started all the way back in the first Hitman game.
Hitman 3 sees Agent 47 track down and kill the leaders of Providence, the secretive organization that controls the affairs of the world. The game features the same stealth and puzzle-solving skill needed in previous titles and has been praised as a brilliant conclusion to the series.
F1 2021
Formula 1 games have often not received the attention they are rightly due. The 2021 version of the game mixes things up, and for the first time, allows two players to take part in the career mode at once, either as teammates or rivals.
The game features all the tracks we as F1 fans know, and adds legendary drivers to the selection; these include Ayrton Senna, Nico Rosberg, Alain Prost, Jensen Button, Michael Schumacher, Felipe Massa, and David Coulthard.
Warzone
Warzone has been out for a while now, but it’s about to get one of its most significant updates ever. Based on the world of Call of Duty, the battle royale sees 150 players loot up and fight on a large map called Verdansk.
Fortnite once dominated the battle royale scene, but Warzone has undoubtedly taken the crown. If you haven’t played it yet, now is the perfect time to start; the new map is only weeks away.
Mass Effect Legendary Edition
Mass Effect Legendary Edition is a compilation of the three incredible Mass Effect games. All three games have been remastered, with vast visual improvements, technical enhancements, and gameplay adjustments.
Mass Effect is one of the best franchises in gaming history, with an unforgettable story, gameplay that has been unmatched in other franchises, and characters that you wish you could be. This is a must-play for any fan of the series or anyone wanting to get into it.
